EABC 2016 Federal Budget Dinner
On Tuesday 3 May 2016, the European Australian Business Council (EABC) hosted its annual Federal Budget Dinner at Parliament House, Canberra. The dinner was held in the Private Dining Rooms of the Mural Hall, at the centre of Parliament House, with special guests including Government Ministers and European Ambassadors.
The Council co-hosted the annual event with Major Partner National Australia Bank.
As one of the most anticipated events on the economic and public-policy calendar, the 2016 Budget Speech was delivered by Federal Treasurer the Hon Scott Morrison MP. After the Budget Speech, a panel of experts discussed the political and economic dimensions of the budget package. Panellists included former Minister for Trade and Leader of the Opposition the Hon Simon Crean, former Federal Treasurer the Hon John Dawkins AO, Cabinet Secretary Senator the Hon Arthur Sinodinos AO, and former Cabinet Minister the Hon Amanda Vanstone, moderated by former Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister & Cabinet Max Moore-Wilton AC.
The Council was delighted to welcome many special guests including Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham, Minister for Education and Training; the Hon Julie Bishop MP, Minister for Foreign Affairs; the Hon Steven Ciobo MP, Minister for Trade and Investment.
The Opposition was represented by senior frontbencher the Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP, Shadow Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry; the Hon Josh Frydenberg, Minister for Resources, Energy and Northern Australia; Hon Greg Hunt MP, Minister for the Environment and the Hon Andrew Robb AO MP, Special Envoy for Trade.
The European diplomatic corps was also well represented with EU Ambassador HE Sem Fabrizi, French Ambassador HE Christophe Lecourtier, German Ambassador HE Christoph Müller, Finnish Ambassador HE Pasi Patokallio, Dutch Ambassador HE Annemieke Ruigrok and Italian Ambassador HE Pier Francesco Zazo.
