EABC 2017 Federal Budget Dinner
On Tuesday 9 May 2017, the European Australian Business Council (EABC) hosted its annual Federal Budget Dinner at Parliament House, Canberra. The dinner was held in the Private Dining Rooms of the Mural Hall, at the centre of Parliament House, with special guests including Government Ministers and European Ambassadors.
The Council co-hosted the event with Major Partner National Australia Bank, led by Spiro Pappas, Executive General Manager of Global Institutional Banking.
As one of the most anticipated events on the economic and public-policy calendar, the 2017 Budget Speech was delivered by Federal Treasurer the Hon Scott Morrison MP.
After the Budget Speech, a panel of experts discussed the political and economic dimensions of the budget package. Expert Panellists included former Premier of New South Wales, and EABC Chairman, the Hon Nick Greiner AC, former Federal Treasurer the Hon John Dawkins AO, and former Senator and ALP National President Stephen Loosley AM.
The Council was delighted to welcome many special guests including Foreign Minister the Hon Julie Bishop MP; Industry, Innovation & Science Minister Senator the Hon Arthur Sinodinos AO; Education & Training Minister Senator the Hon Simon Birmingham; Small Business Minister the Hon Michael McCormack MP; Attorney General Senator the Hon George Brandis QC; Justice Minister the Hon Michael Keenan MP; and Assistant Trade, Tourism and Investment Minister the Hon Keith Pitt MP.
The Opposition was represented by senior frontbencher the Hon Jason Clare MP, Shadow Minister for Trade and Investment and Shadow Minister for Resources and Northern Australia.
The European diplomatic corps was also well represented with EU Ambassador Sem Fabrizi, French Ambassador Christophe Lecourtier, German Ambassador Anna Elisabeth Prinz, Irish Ambassador Breandán Ó Caollaí and Italian Ambassador Pier Francesco Zazo.
Other guests included members of the EABC Board, Corporate Council, representatives of Corporate Members and senior executives, clients and guests of EABC Major Partners and event co-host National Australia Bank.
